Pegler Yorkshire

Pegler Yorkshire is a name synonymous with quality within the manufacturing world. Leader in the valves, taps and fittings market, Pegler Yorkshire supplies its products to prestigious building projects throughout the world. Using the latest technology, Pegler Yorkshire sets itself apart from its competition by continually developing innovative customer focused products. Its unrivalled list of market leading product brands include; Yorkshire solder ring fittings, Terrier radiator valves, Tectite push fit fittings, Francis Pegler and Performa brassware, Pegler commercial valves, XPress press fit fittings, Endex end feed fittings, Prestex plumbing valves and Kuterlite compression fittings.

The business objective

The key objective for the Pegler Yorkshire Group business was to integrate the Pegler and Yorkshire Fittings product ranges into a single facility as products were being delivered separately from multiple existing sites, creating additional costs and complications for the business with the potential of increased inconvenience for customers. Key to facilitating this major integration and consolidation exercise was the development of the greenfield warehousing site at Manvers.

IWS

IWS provides the warehouse management and control for the Manvers DC that stores components that are predominantly small in size and high in volume, the overall system having been designed to achieve the high levels of efficiency that Pegler Yorkshire Group requires. IWS provides the management and control of the DC operation which comprises a fully-automated mini-load ASRS and 7,000 pallet location warehouse.

The mini-load system features three mini-load cranes in a double-deep storage rack connected by a high-throughput conveyor system to custom-built Decant Stations, Pick-to-Light Stations, Pack Stations, sortation lanes and robot tote stacking.

The manual warehouse features static pallet and pallet flow racking in both VNA and Wide Aisle configuration with cantilever racking for tube product and floor locations for block stacking, load assembly and dispatch

Key components of the IWS implementation are:

  • Optimisation of all activities including put-away, picking, replenishment, packing and dispatch via RF-Based Mobile PC’s
  • Optimisation of the ASRS system to maximise the throughput
  • Purpose built screens to streamline in-feed, goods-to-man picking, out-feed and packing at dedicated work stations
  • Integrated equipment visualisation to ensure that any faults that occur in the automation can be rapidly diagnosed and resolved
  • Sophisticated order management, load planning and shipment controls
  • Automatic release of work at cut-off times

The benefits

IWS has enabled the DC's seamless integration with the Pegler Yorkshire Group supply chain with the new system enabling the DC to operate with greater speed and accuracy, improving the service the company provides to its many global stockists and end users.
